I have read almost all of Marie Lu's series, however, this is actually the first sequel of hers that I've made it to. I read Legend- but not any of the sequels, I read The Young Elites- but never any of the sequels, and I read Warcross which... I DID read the sequel! Which is super odd for me because I actually loved The Young Elites and Legend, and Warcross isn't typically my kind of book. In fact, I kept getting Warcross and Ready Player One confused- having only watched the movie. There were certain things I thought I remembered from the first book, but then remembered it was from RPO anyway.

Anywho, back to Wildcard. I actually REALLY liked this sequel. The last probably 20% of the book was kind of weirdly paced and I found myself somewhat bored sometimes, but I absolutely LOVED all the twists and turns Lu put in the plot, I really didn't see or predict any of the things that happened and I liked being kept in suspense. The world in general is beautifully created and often times I stopped to think about our world and how awesome it would be to have the lenses and be able to communicate the way they do in the book- or to go to the Dark World. Sometimes I think that maybe we aren't too far away from that at all.

To be honest, I felt like the second book seriously lagged in characterization. Emika seemed to have more personality in Warcross than she did in Wildcard, same with Hideo. The character of Zero was really cool though, he was probably the most interesting character in the whole book, so I'm glad we got to see plenty of him in this book.

Wildcard only earned a 4 out of 5 from me because it didn't really leave me feeling anything special about it. Yes, I liked the experience of reading it- but I wasn't moved to tears or feel angry so it stayed a comfortable 4. It did make me, however, want to go back and reread Legend and The Young Elites and actually finish those series.
